This month’s host is Abigail, who chose the topic of biomimicry after being amazed by how the Ocean’s designs — from whales to coral reefs — are shaping the future of engineering and art. Inspired by nature’s creativity and resilience, Abby wants to explore how looking to the sea can help us build a more sustainable, awe-inspiring world.

This month were talking about: Biomimicry

Biomimicry is all about looking to nature — especially the Ocean — for brilliant ideas to solve human challenges. It’s like nature’s been quietly engineering and creating art for billions of years, and now we’re finally paying attention and taking notes. Did you know that the shape of modern ship hulls and even some high-speed trains are inspired by the sleek bodies of dolphins and fish? Think of the flowing curves of a seashell, or the iridescent colors of a fish’s scales — artists and architects draw on these patterns to create everything from jewelry to buildings that shimmer and shift with the light. Biomimicry invites us to see the Ocean not just as a mystery or a resource, but as a wise teacher. From the tiniest plankton to the mightiest whale, the ocean is full of design blueprints that can help us build a more sustainable, beautiful world — if we’re willing to dive in and learn

Learn all about it:

Ever wonder how a butterfly, a beetle, or a humpback whale could inspire world-changing inventions? This video shows how nature’s coolest designs are helping humans solve big problems — and it’s seriously mind-blowing!
