Meet the hosts:

Charlene Desouza
Youth Advisory Council Member | World Ocean Day
Charlene (she/her) is a passionate marine biology graduate and aspiring environmental advocate dedicated to Ocean conservation. Her research has explored the impacts of climate change, pollution, and microplastics on marine life, leading to a published scientific paper. Charlene is driven to raise awareness, inspire change, and empower communities to protect our Ocean.

Dr. Gemma Connell
Youth Engagement Lead | Ocean Generation
Dr Gemma Connell runs our Wavemaker programme across the UK and beyond. Prior to joining Ocean Generation, Gemma spent 15 years in the performing arts industry as a choreographer, theatre maker and producer before switching to a career in science communication. Despite working for an Ocean charity, she's not a very strong swimmer but is a little bit obsessed with sting rays!

FROM RIPPLES TO WAVES
After attending Ocean Generation’s “How to Run an Ocean Conversation” webinar in January, Charlene reached out for mentoring support to bring her own Ocean Literacy event to life. Over the past few months, we've proudly supported her as she developed this session, but the vision, drive, and content are all from the brilliant Charlene. This is youth leadership in action, and we’re excited to celebrate it this World Ocean Day!
